Scott Kissau

Profile

Scott Kissau (Ph. D., The University of Windsor, Ontario) is a Professor of foreign language teaching and learning, former Chair of the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education, and currently serving as the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Education.

Dr. Kisssau promotes and supports research and the pursuit of external funding among students, faculty, and staff in the Cato College of Education. In this role, he offers grant development workshops, opportunities for proposal development mentoring and SEED funding, and meets weekly with the College’s grant support team to review requests for support (tickets) and ensure these requests are being addressed in a timely manner. Dr. Kissau serves as the College’s liaison to the Division of Research

Dr. Kissau is recognized as an outstanding teaching. In 2011, he was the recipient of the College of Education Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2015, Dr. Kissau was named the Higher Education Teacher of the Year by the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina, and in 2016 was the recipient of a national teaching award, the prestigious Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education, granted by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). In addition to publishing dozens of articles in respected journals, such as the Journal of Teacher Education, Teaching and Teacher Education, and Foreign Language Annals, Dr. Kissau has received over $4 million in external funding.
